Margarita with a Straw (also known as Choone Chali Aasman in the Indian market) is a 2014\r\nIndian drama film. It stars Kalki Koechlin, who plays Laila, a teenager with cerebral palsy. Revathy, Sayani Gupta, and William Moseley play\r\nsupporting roles. The movie talks about struggle with the normal activities in\r\nher life. Margarita with a\r\nStraw was one of the five projects selected\r\nfor the Work In Progress Lab of Film Bazaar 2013.
Laila (Kalki Koechelin) is a teenager with\r\ncerebral palsy who uses a wheelchair. She is a student at Delhi University and an aspiring writer who writes\r\nlyrics and creates electronic sounds for an indie band at the university. Laila\r\nfalls for the lead singer of the college band and is heartbroken when she is\r\nrejected.
She\r\nsoon overcomes this phase, when she gets a scholarship for a semester at New York University and moves there with her mother\r\n(Revathy). Living in Manhattan, she meets an attractive young man named Jared\r\n(William Moseley) in her creative writing class, who is assigned to help her in\r\ntyping. She also meets the fiery young activist Khanum (Sayani Gupta), a blind\r\ngirl of a Pakistani\r\nBangladeshi descent,\r\nwhom she later falls in love with. As she embarks on a journey of sexual\r\ndiscovery, she figures out she is bisexual, as she feels attracted to men like\r\nJared in spite of being with Khanum. She has sex with Jared and she doesn't\r\ntell Khanum. Laila's mother, believing the two are like best friends and\r\noblivious to the fact that Khanum is her daughter's lover, invites her to Delhi\r\nto spend the winter break with the family. It is during that time that Laila\r\nfinds the courage to tell her mother about her sexuality and her relationship\r\nwith Khanum, which her mother initially disapproves. She also tells Khanum that\r\nshe had sex with Jared and asks her to forgive her. Khanum thinks that she was\r\nbeing used by Laila and leaves her.
